About Thad

 

I am a Civil Engineer and the President of Claggett & Sons, Inc., a fourth-generation commercial and industrial construction contractor located on Sharon Valley Road in Newark. For sixty-nine years the Claggett family has employed hundreds of our neighbors while building hundreds of noteworthy structures in the region. 

Over the years I have served in numerous community organizations which connected me to Licking County residents in very meaningful ways. I presently serve as the President of the Licking County Library Board. I am a past board member of our Licking County Chamber of Commerce as well as chairman of the small business sub-committee. I also serve as a director of our area action council for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB Ohio). I am also on the board of the Central Ohio and Ohio chapters of the Associated Builders and Contractors which are part of the nation’s largest organization of merit shop contractors. I have been very active in the political goals of these organizations.

I married Elizabeth 24 years ago and we parent two wonderful children. In 1997 I was one of the founding members of our church congregation that is located in Pataskala in a building built by Claggett & Sons. We join with other families as we worship and grow in our faith. I continue to serve as the Deacon Chairman as I have for over 2 decades. To help the church even more, I have recently completed my classwork for my Master’s Degree in theology even while keeping up with the various demands of my home and professional life. 

My family has lived on the same road in Newark for the past 135 years. In fact, our farm is one of the original family farms that made up the Welsh Hills area. When I say Licking County is in my blood, you can see why. 

I live my conservative Republican values in everything I do—because it works! 

As a husband, father and church leader, I put my trust in God and work to honor Him in everything I do. I have known struggles and sadness in my life, but my faith sustains me, and God teaches me with every challenge my family faces. Thus I have learned to be more gentle. 

As a businessman, I embrace capitalism, knowing it helps our country, my company and our employees achieve prosperity on many levels. 

And as an American, I treasure our freedom and the personal responsibility that come with it.

In the coming months I will explain in greater detail my steadfast support of the following political positions:

  • Preserving Licking County’s way of life in face of the coming development;

  • Support the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death;

  • Support the Second Amendment;

  • Support low taxes;

  • Support reduced regulation;

  • Support reduced government spending;

  • Support state, local, and parental control of education;

  • Support a true “all of the above” energy strategy
